Redeemed for Joy

Okay girls, I wasn't aware that this study was going to shine such a spotlight on the hidden places of my heart...to dig a little deeper than the surface.  Or maybe that's why I was a bit hesitant at the beginning to dive in??

Have you ever been awakened throughout the night with an overwhelming fear that kept coming back, engulfing your thoughts and paralyzing you?  How did you respond?  Don't worry, I am not here to judge.  This is a safe place to share.  This happened to me this week...and at first I was so consumed that I continued to listen to the lies.  But then I remembered a scripture from 2 Timothy 1:7 that my mother taught me as a child.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

And I began to pray.  Then, just as His Word clearly promises a peace that passes ALL understanding came over me.  And I slept.

That was just the beginning of what God was doing in my life this week.

Each day of this study took me from surface to deep; back and forth as He opened my eyes to the hidden idols of my heart.  It was sometimes the DARK deep but when I was frightened, HE WAS THERE.  He gently guided me forward...coaxing me to go further (like we do with Rose, our Chihuahua when we want her to come out from under the bed when she gets scared).  CHILDREN...MONEY...BEAUTY/APPEARANCE...CAREER... CHURCH...REST/COMFORT...ACCEPTANCE/ADMIRATION...HIGH STANDARDS ...CONTROL AND THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHERS...A GOOD CAUSE...

And just like our redemption, this began a process that is ongoing.  Like Angela says,

We became followers of Jesus by repentance, and we continue to grow by repentance.  The first time we repent by grace and every time after, it is the same grace that enables us.  Growing up in Christ is a moment by moment, day after day, journey.

But the journey is often hard.  We live in a broken world full of broken people, with broken dreams.  The suffering going on around us can often be too much to bear.  However, dear Redeemed One, there is a JOY available to us when we abide in the Vine.  But we must abide (to remain stable or fixed in a state, to continue in a place).  And Beware.  There is an enemy prowling around.  He wants to steal your JOY.  He knows the strength you gain by abiding.  And I believe his little bony butt is scared of us all, dear friends!  Are you willing to fight for JOY?  Run to Jesus and stay with Him.  You are being Redeemed for JOY!!
