Scripture: Haggai 1:1–1:8
So many times, people are slow to volunteer-even in the church. A lack of serving does not damage the church, it damages the person who does not serve. God wants us all to have a servant's heart. There is never a shortage of work to be done-only a shortage of workers. This is not a message of desperation but of duty. Jesus is the example for every Christian. (1 Peter 4:10-11) God has given every believer spiritual gifts to serve each other. Haggai records the call of God to rebuild the Temple when the Jews were allowed to return home under Persian rule. Haggai 1:4-8 is the message to Zerubbabel. God brings people of faith into a community of believers to do work that is beyond what individuals can accomplish on their own. This is the method He chooses and it brings glory to Him. Serving God is a privilege, not a task. He wants us to accomplish great things for Him.
Key thought- If everyone served in the church the way you do, what kind of church would it be?
