Scripture: Hebrews 11:23
A mother loves her kids best by loving God the most. Hebrews 11 mentions several women in the faith hall of fame. Verse 23 talks about one mom who, by faith, was not afraid: Jochebed was Moses’ mother.
The Israelites had been in Egypt for around 400 years and their population had greatly increased. The Egyptians feared their numbers so Pharaoh made them slaves. He then ordered the midwives to kill the baby boys to control the population. The midwives refused and God protected them. Pharaoh decide to have his army kill the children when they were born.
Jochebed disguised her son and hid him as long as she could. She knew Moses was special and trusted God to take care of him. She set him in a basket and set him in the reeds of the Nile. She made Miriam, his sister, keep watch to see what would happen. Pharoah’s daughter saw the baby and took him back with her to the palace. She brought in Moses’ mother to nurse the child and become his nanny. God blessed Jochebed for her faithfulness by allowing her to stay in her son’s life.
(Matt. 10:37-39) The greatest love we show God is the sacrificial love we have for Him. God doesn’t want us to love our family less-but to love Him more. One way to show that love is by raising children God’s way–not the world’s way (Luke 12:15) and not get caught up in worldliness. The world’s morals destroy the spiritual (Prov 29:17, 13:24).
